Artists Alley Policies

Hours: The Artist Alley is open 24 hours a day from 7PM Thursday to 6PM Sunday.

Who to contact: The Dealer's Den staff is responsible for the Artist Alley. They will make periodic walk through of the area but will not be permanently in the room. If there is a question or concern that arises, you may locate them in the Dealer's Den across the hall. When the Den is closed, please find a member of staff or security to contact them.

Space: Space in the Artists' Alley is available strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be no charge for space in the Alley. Each artisan will be assigned a single chair and a half-table space in which to work on projects and offer their wares for sale. The space boundaries will be marked with tape on the table. Since the tables are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis, the number of spaces will be limited to the number of table spaces in the Alley.

Even if there is no one sitting on either side of an artisan, they may not take the open space.

Space in the alley cannot be reserved. Artisans will be permitted to leave their space and not have it given to another artisan for breaks of no more than 15 minutes for no more often than four times a day. Artisans will also be permitted one break of an hour during the day. If demand warrants, space may temporarily be reassigned while an artisan is gone, but may be reclaimed when they return from break.

The staff will not be necessarily keeping track of times that an artisan is away from their table. However, if a space is noticed to be vacated for an extended period of time by the staff, the staff reserves the right to remove the contents of the space to either Dealer's Den or Con Ops and free the table for another artisan. When this happens, the original artisan may claim his or her possessions from the staff in either the Dealer's Den or Convetion Operations. The original artisan is not entitled to their original space back.

When there is no one from staff in the artist alley or dealer's room, an artisan may simply take any vacant space that is in the room

Taxes: It is the intention of Furry Weekend Atlanta to remain within the law at all times. All artisans will be required to deduct and report 8% sales tax from their transactions. Furry Weekend Atlanta will NOT be providing register service - instead, we've arranged with the Georgia Department of Revenue to use a special Miscellaneous form, same as our dealers, to report sales tax that does NOT require artisans to have tax IDs. The form, Georgia Form FS-32 is exceptionally simple and should take less than 5 minutes at the end of the day to complete. Assistance will be available for those who need it. Artisans must, however, track their own sales.

Appropriate Material and Behavior: The following will not be permitted in the Artists' Alley.

  • The use of electrical outlets (except for the communal power strip), the use of freestanding floor displays/tables or the use of signs larger than 8.5 x 11. These items belong in the Dealers' Den. Smaller display may sit in your table space; however they must fit in your space entirely.
  • Hanging banners or signs from tables. Signs which are no larger than 8.5 x 11 may sit on top of the table.
  • Damaging (or "modifying") tables in any way, shape, or form. This includes messing with the tape that separates spaces.
  • Sharing or occupying more than the allotted space, even if the other space is not currently filled. Each space is allotted to ONE artist.
  • The sale of pirated material, copied material, or anything the artisan didn't create themselves or of items that do not feature the artisan's work. The Artists' Alley is only for selling personal creations.
  • Weapons. Exceptions can be made, but must be cleared through Security and the Artists' Alley Director.

Material openly displayed in the Artists' Alley must not exceed the PG-13 rating of the convention! Any material of an adult nature will be kept by the individual dealers in a closed folder or otherwise covered or unseen location. Additionally, any "naughty" parts of must be covered in some fashion (Post-It notes work well for this). This satisfies State requirements about underage viewing and is discreet for purchasers. Artisans are responsible for keeping unsuitable material out of the hands of minors in the Alley. Minors will be clearly identifiable; more information on how to identify them will be available nearer to the convention.

Power: There will be a communal power strip available for use of the artists. This is the only place you may plug in. You may plug in a small device when you need to use it. As long as you're willing to share your device with the other artist, you may leave artistic equipment plugged into the strip, such as a laminator. You may not leave other devices plugged in after use and you may not use the strip to recharge devices, such as laptops. At no times should the strip be used to power an entertainment device, such as a CD or DVD player. The use of any other power outlets is not allowed in the artist alley - even if you are sitting by one, you may not use it.

Other rules and notices:

  • Only ONE person, the artisan, may be behind a table space.
  • There will be NO sleeping in the Artist Alley. If you are tired, you must give up your space. Anyone caught sleeping will be woken up and told to leave.
  • When you leave your space, make sure to take everything, including your trash. There will be a trash can provided in the room.
  • FWA is not responsible for connecting artisans to convention attendees. FWA will not give out personal information.
  • FWA is not responsible for missing and/or stolen items out of the Artist Alley.
  • Please do not sit outside of Artist Alley waiting for a table to come free. This crowds the hall and entrance. Anyone caught sitting outside will be asked to move along.

Failure to follow the rules: For the first offence, the artisan will be reminded of the rules and expected to comply quickly with them. For the second offense, the artisan may be removed from the room for a period of 12 hours. For the third offense, the artisan may be removed from the room for the convention. Depending on the offense and action of the artisan, the staff reserves the right to remove the artisan from the room for any period of time deemed appropriate and/or report them to the board for further actions on the first and/or second offense.

Final Notes: Furry Weekend reserves the right to make changes to this policy as needed. The Artists' Alley Director will have final say over any disputes and will have discretionary powers in the Alley. Accepting space in the Alley constitutes acceptance of these policies.
